Teeth and Dental Health Books, Songs, and Rhymes

Read any dental or tooth-related story book to children (see book suggestions below.) Talk about the book and why it is important to keep teeth healthy. Explain that teeth are important for chewing, speaking, and having a healthy smile. A healthy mouth is part of a healthy body. Ask children what they need to do to keep their teeth healthy: brushing, eating tooth-friendly foods, flossing, and going to see the dentist. Pass out small mirrors so each child can examine and count teeth.

Preschool and Kindergarten Teeth Rhymes and Songs

How to Keep Teeth Clean
by Erin Lassiter, Copyright KidsSoup, Inc.

Brush up and down. (Pretend to move toothbrush up and down.)
Brush back and forth. (Pretend to move toothbrush back and forth.)
Brush in front. (Pretend to brush front teeth.)
Brush in back. (Pretend to brush back teeth.)
Brush every tooth every day.
Brush your teeth in every way.
And floss in-between. (Pretend to floss.)
That's how to keep teeth clean. (Smile big.)

I Know How to Brush My Teeth
(Author Unknown)

I know how to brush my teeth
I brush on top and underneath
Up like a rocket
Down like a plane
Back and forth like a choo-choo train.

Are Your Teeth Clean and White?
(Author Unknown)

Are your teeth clean and white?
Do you brush them every night?
Do you brush them in the morning?
Do you brush them right?

Do you brush them side to side?
Are your teeth clean and white?
Do you floss them good,
to remove the bits of food?

Do you floss them every day,
like you know you should?
Do you take good care of the teeth that are there?
Do you floss them good?

Got My Toothpaste, Got My Brush
(Author Unknown)

Got my toothpaste, got my brush,
I won't hurry, I won't rush.
Making sure my teeth are clean,
Front and back and in between.
When I brush for quite a while,
I will have a happy smile!

Brush Your Teeth
(Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
(Author Unknown)

Brush, brush, brush your teeth, at least two times a day.
Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, cleaning,
Fighting tooth decay.

Floss, floss, floss your teeth, every single day.
Gently, gently, gently, gently,
Whisking plaque away.

Rinse, rinse, rinse your teeth every single day.
Swishing, swishing, swishing, swishing,
Fighting tooth decay.

Song: The Dentist Says
(Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
(Author Unknown)

The dentist says please brush your teeth
to have a healthy smile.
Up and down and up and down
Brush them twice a day.

The dentist says please floss your teeth
to have a healthy smile.
In between and back and forth
Floss them once a day.

The dentist says please eat good food
to have a healthy smile.
Carrots, apples. and crunchy food
clean your teeth all day.
