Preschool and Kindergarten Penquin Footprint Craft

What you need:

Black paint
Paintbrush
Yellow, blue, and white construction paper
Scissors
Glue
Feet

What you do:

Preschool Activities:

Over a period of a few days, have a classroom helper paint each child's foot, one at a time, with black paint and have the child make his/her footprint on white construction paper. Have the classroom helper assist child in washing his/her foot afterwards.

Preschool Activities:

Once all footprints have been made, have each child add an orange beak, a webbed foot, and a googly eye to his/her footprint to begin transforming it into a penguin.

Preschool Activities:

Have children draw lines from their penguins' heads to where the black paint begins again to make the white bellies of their penguins. Show them how to cut out their penguins by cutting around their foot shapes. Have children glue their penguin cut-outs to blue construction paper backgrounds.

Preschool Activities:

Then, let children cut white construction paper scraps into blocks of ice to glue under and around their penguins to complete their artworks. Close the craft activity with the following rhyme.

Penguin Rhyme

I'm a Little Penguin

Original Author Unknown

I'm a little penguin,
Black and white.
Short and wobbly,
An adorable sight.

I can't fly at all,
but I love to swim.
So I'll waddle to the water,
And dive right in!
