Fall Leaves Wreath Door Decoration

Enjoy the colorful fall leaves by making a Fall Wreath Craft with your children. In fall, when the leaves are changing colors, go outside with your children and gather some large leaves. Then, form a coat hanger into a circle and have children lace the leaves to create a colorful wreath to grace your doorway. To get in to the Halloween spirit, we added some eyeballs to the fall leaf wreath for a spooky Halloween welcome.

Preschool and Kindergarten Fall Wreath Craft and Fine Motor Skills Activity

What you need:
Wire coat hanger
Wire clipper
Fall leaves

Preschool Activities:

What you do:
Place leaves inside a basket. Prepare a wire hanger by forming it into a circle shape. Use the flat part of a wire clipper to flatten out the bumpy area of the wire and to smooth it into a circle. Leave the "hanger" so that you can hang the wreath from it. Cut the wire close to the "hanger" as shown here:

Preschool Activities:

Once you have prepared the wire, begin pushing leaves on to the wire. This is a great fine motor skill activity for young children.

Preschool Activities:

Center each leaf on the wire and continue until the wire is filled. It takes more leaves than one would expect, so you may need to go outside the next day to gather some more leaves to complete the wreath. We used both green and dry leaves. Make sure that the leaves are not too dry. Leaves that are too dry are brittle and will easily break. The green leaves will shape nicely around the wreath as they dry. To make a smaller version of the wreath cut off some of the wire.

Preschool Activities:

Once you're satisfied with your wreath, use the wire cutters to twist the wire to close the wreath.

Preschool Activities:

Add some fall-colored ribbons and maybe create a label to finish decorating the wreath.

Halloween Leaf Wreath

Get into the Halloween spirit by adding eyeballs to your leaf wreath. Glue some large googly eyes (preferably orange ones) to some Ping-pong balls.

Preschool Activities:

Use a hot glue gun to attach the eyeballs to your leaf wreath. Hang it from your front door for a ghoulish Halloween welcome.
