Gift Bows Fine Motor Skill Activity

What you need:
Selection of gift bows
Shoe box
Wrapping paper
Scissors
Velcro dots with sticky backs
Learning Goals and Standards:
- Develop fine motor skills (grasping, pressing, sticking, pulling)
- Strengthen hand–eye coordination
- Practice counting, adding, and subtracting
What you do:
Prepare the Box:
Wrap the shoe box with wrapping paper.

Attach the Velcro:
Stick one side of the Velcro dots onto the gift bows and the matching sides onto the wrapped box.


Play and Explore:
Invite children to stick the bows onto the box and then remove them again.
This builds finger strength, control, and coordination.

Extensions / Variation – Addition and Subtraction: Make 10
- Use 10 gift bows.
- Have children count all the bows.
- Use a spinner or dice to choose a number.
- Have children place that many bows on the box.
- Ask:
- “How many bows are on the box?”
- “How many are left?”
- Let children record their number sentences or talk through their math thinking.
