What you need:

White cardstock (portrait orientation)
Pencil
Green paint
Additional colors (red, yellow, pink, blue, etc.)
Paper plates (one per color)
Pom-poms in various colors
Clothespins
Bunny ear template (printed or drawn)
Scissors
Glue
Markers or crayons
Paintbrush (for the green background)
Art smock or table covering

Learning Goals and Standards:

  • Strengthen fine motor skills
  • Encourage creativity and independence
  • Follow directions

What you do:

Preparation

  • Clip different colored pom-poms into clothespins to create pom-pom stampers.
  • Place the matching paint colors onto separate paper plates.
  • Set each pom-pom stamper on the plate with its corresponding color.
  • Print out a bunny ear template or draw one in advance. Cut it out—or let the children cut out the ears themselves.

Instructions:

Draw the bunny head
Children use a pencil to draw part of a bunny’s head (a round head shape along the edge of the paper).

Paint the grass
Paint the paper green, leaving the bunny’s head white.
Let everything dry well.

Stamp the flowers
Once dry, children use the different colored pom-pom stampers to create colorful flowers on the green grass.

Decorate the ears
The bunny ears are colored in or creatively decorated.

Attach the ears
Apply glue to the bottom part of the ears and attach them to the bunny’s head so that the ears remain movable.

Finish the face
Finally, children draw the eyes, nose, whiskers, and mouth—giving each bunny its own unique expression.
