Bows Matching and Rhyming Game

What you need:

Gift bows
Rhyming pictures printable
Scissors
Glue

Phonemic Awareness, Rhyming words (The ability to recognize and produce rhyming words is an important phonological awareness skill.)
Matching, concentration


What you do:

Print Rhyming pictures printable and cut out circles. Glue circles to the backs of the gift bows.

Game Introduction
Place gift bows upside down on a table (picture face up).

Ask one child to choose a gift bow and name the picture (hen). Ask children if they know a word that rhymes with "hen."

Invite children to find a gift bow that rhymes with "hen."

  • If the children answer correctly, reinforce by saying, “That’s right. See, "hen" rhymes with "pen". Hen - pen." 

Repeat with another pair. Continue until all matches have been found.

Game Play (1-2 players)

Place gift bows picture down on the table or on the floor. Taking turns, the children turn over two gift bows. If the pictures rhyme, the player gets to keep the bows. If the pictures don't rhyme, the bows get turned back over. Then the next player gets a turn.

 

Option:

Bows Winter Images Matching Game

Print and cut out two sets of the winter pictures or use stickers in pairs. Glue pictures to the bottom of the bows. 

Game Play:
Place bows picture face down on the table. Taking turns, the player turns over two bows and names the pictures. If the pictures match, the player gets to keep the bows and gets another turn. If they don't match the bows get turned over again. The next player gets a turn.
