Pumpkin Lacing Card Activity

What you need:

Printed pumpkin lacing card templates
Scissors
Laminator (or cardboard for backing)
Hole punch
Orange yarn
Clear tape

Learning Goals and Standards:

  • Fine Motor Skills: Strengthens hand–eye coordination, grasp, and control.
  • Pre-Writing Skills: Builds muscle memory needed for early writing.
  • Concentration & Patience: Encourages focus and careful movement.
  • Creativity: Children can lace in different patterns and directions.

What you do:

Preparation

  1. Print the pumpkin lacing cards.
  2. Cut out the pumpkin and laminate it, or glue it onto cardboard for extra strength.
  3. Punch holes around the edge of the pumpkin.
  4. Cut a piece of orange yarn. To make it easier to lace: Wrap clear tape tightly around one end to create a “needle.”
  5. Tie the other end of the yarn onto one hole of the pumpkin card.

Instructions:

Give each child a pumpkin lacing card and prepared yarn.

Show the children how to lace the yarn through the holes around the pumpkin.

Encourage them to go all the way around the shape.
